Are you looking for a fun, no carve pumpkin decorating idea for Halloween? 🎃 These miniature and munchkin pumpkin crafts are perfect for kids, from toddlers (with a little adult help) to older children who can try more detailed designs.
Pumpkin decorating is such a fantastic, mess free alternative to carving. With no sharp tools involved, it’s a much safer craft for little hands. You can use any pumpkin, large or small, perfectly round or a little lopsided and if you make a mistake, simply wash it off and start again.

The pumpkins we used for these ideas are munchkin pumpkins from Sainsbury’s here in the UK (they were just £1.25 each at the time of writing). We also added a couple of small squash that looked very pumpkin like.
To keep them fresh, we bought them early in October and stored them in a cool, dry spot at the end of our kitchen, about 18 degrees on average. Just before decorating, we gave them a good wash and dry to prevent any moisture build up.
Note: These activities do require adult help and supervision, both while decorating and afterwards, depending on how the pumpkins are handled.

Each of the 10 pumpkin decorating ideas below includes a quick explanation of the craft materials and how to make it. They’re really simple, budget friendly, and so much fun for kids of all ages.
Jump straight to…
1. Pom Pom Monster Pumpkin

Using pom poms, wiggle eyes and double sided sticky tape you can make a pom pom monster pumpkin!
Stick colourful pom poms all over the miniature pumpkin with double-sided tape. Add wiggle eyes for a silly monster look.
2. Witch Pumpkin

Using wool, pipe cleaners, wiggle eyes, stick-on gems and PVA glue you can make a witch pumpkin!
Glue wool/yarn to the top for hair. Add wiggle eyes and stick-on gem mouth. Make a mini witch hat by joining three pipe cleaners together and spiralling them into a witches hat shape, then glue (PVA) it on.
💡 Weigh the hat down with coins until the glue dries.
3. Spider Pumpkin

This spider pumpkin is made from black pipe cleaners, black pom poms, black glitter and PVA glue.
Cut 8 black pipe cleaners into leg lengths and glue (PVA) onto a munchkin pumpkin. Add a cluster of pom poms for the spider’s body. Cover glue spots with glitter for a spooky shimmer.
4. Spiderweb Pumpkin

To make this spiderweb pumpkin all you need is a black glitter glue pen and a steady hand.
Use a black glitter glue pen to draw vertical lines down the pumpkin ridges. Connect them with circular web lines, starting from the top.
💡 Keep your hand steady but don’t worry, webs look great even when wobbly!
5. Ghost Pumpkin

Using a ghost pumpkin, white pipe cleaner, black felt tip pen, pencil, black glitter pen, PVA glue, white paint and black stick on gems, you can make an actual ghost pumpkin!
Paint a cream/white munchkin pumpkin with one coat of white paint. Draw a ghost face with pencil first, then fill in with black marker. Outline with glitter glue and stick on the cheek gems. Glue (PVA) a spiral pipe cleaner on top.
6. Glitter Pumpkin

Brush PVA glue over the pumpkin. Sprinkle on orange, gold, or multi-coloured glitter.
✨ So simple, yet so magical!
7. Starry Pumpkin (Squash works too)

Stick foam star stickers all over the pumpkin. Add star sequins with PVA glue for extra sparkle. Try mixing different shapes like moons or bats for variety.
8. Glow in the Dark Pumpkin

By day a ghostly white pumpkin and by night a glowing delight! This one has been made using a ghost pumpkin, white paint, glow in the dark foam stickers, sequin stars and PVA glue.
