Tulip Spring Craft for Toddlers and Preschoolers with Free Template

Tulip craft in a row

With tulips blooming from March to May in spring this is a perfect time to do a tulip craft! Beautifully decorating gardens and fields, they come out in extraordinary colours ranging from white, yellow, pink, orange to bright red and deep purple.

This makes a for lovely spring craft for toddlers and preschoolers to learn about tulips and expand on vocabulary. It’s also a quick simple craft for short attention spans. Once they have made their own tulip they will start spotting tulips everywhere, you’ll see!

To make the tulip pots we have used some brown card from our recycling which is a great way to re-use some unwanted packaging, that’s a thumbs up!

*Please note that adult help and supervision will be required for this craft at all times and special care should be taken when using the scissors, glitter glue and glue.*

So let’s get started, this is what you will need:

Materials for tulip craft.
  • Coloured A4 card (orange, pink, yellow, purple, red, green)
  • Brown cardboard from your recycling
  • Green lollipop sticks
  • Tulip coloured tissue paper (orange, pink, yellow, purple, red)
  • Glitter glue (or glitter paint)
  • Paint brush
  • Sticky tape
  • Safety scissors
  • Pritt stick glue
  • Pencil

Firstly you will need to make your tulip template, or you can download this free template here:

An adult will use the template to get all the components cut out with a pencil and scissors. There will be a tulip flower, two leaves, a plant pot and a green lollipop stick per tulip.

Tulip craft components.

With sticky tape and safety scissors, help your child create the tulip to start. Using the lollipop stick as the stem, stick on the tulip flower, plant pot and two leaves in that order.

This is the fun part where your child can decorate their tulip flower. Use ripped tissue paper with pritt stick glue for the main body of the tulip. Then use glitter glue for the tops of the tulip which is often the highlighted part of the tulip. Use the paint brush to spread it out.

You will now have your completed tulips, how lovely! You can create these in a range of tulip colours too.

We took this craft to our local toddler group and it was a hit with the children and adults making them together. Some even made them as a nice surprise to go into a grandparents birthday card which is a lovely idea!

Other ways to decorate the tulips would be to use glitter glue all over the tulip flower or you could use small square pieces of tissue paper instead. You could make a white tulip flower to be coloured in. If you have any further ideas do share them in the comments below.
